Bird

The Red-rumped Swallow arrives from late February and is a common summer visitor. Its unusual nest is made from mud and has a long narrow tunnel entrance. Favoured nest sites include caves, sheltered parts of old buildings and bridges or culverts. The species leaves the area for its wintering grounds in tropical Africa in October.
